Product Portfolio — Stancor Forgings
Manufacturer of open and closed die forgings — shafts, discs, seamless rolled rings, blocks and blanks in carbon, alloy, stainless, duplex and nickel alloy steels, supplied proof machined with EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 certification.
Shafts, blocks, hollows and stepped shafts to 25 tonnes, upset and drawn on the press to a recorded reduction ratio.
An open die forging is bought for its grain flow. Billet or ingot is heated into the forging range and worked between flat and swage dies until the ordered reduction ratio is reached, so the fibre follows the shape of the part instead of being cut through it as it would be in a part machined from bar. We forge round and rectangular shafts, stepped shafts, blocks, slabs and hollows to 25 tonnes finished weight, heat treat to the specified property class and ultrasonically test before proof machin

Rings to 2500 mm outside diameter, pierced and rolled so the grain runs circumferentially.
A rolled ring starts as an upset pancake, is pierced to a doughnut and then rolled between a driven roll and a mandrel until the diameter grows and the wall comes down. The grain ends up running around the circumference, which is exactly the direction a bearing race, gear rim or tower flange is loaded. We roll rings from 200 mm to 2500 mm outside diameter in carbon, alloy, stainless, duplex and nickel alloy grades, with rectangular or contoured profiles.

Pancake and upset discs, flange, valve and tube sheet blanks, proof machined to your allowance.
Discs and blanks are the volume end of open die work: upset pancakes for flange and valve blanks, tube sheets, blind discs, gear and sprocket blanks and cover plates. Because the customer machines them, the question that matters is the machining allowance and the UT scan surface, so both are agreed at order. Blanks ship as-forged, proof machined or finish machined, with the heat treatment certificate and ultrasonic report in the same pack.

Die forged parts to drawing in repeat volumes, with die development and first article approval.
Where the part repeats, a die pays for itself: closer to net shape, less machining and a consistent grain flow from piece to piece. We develop the die from your drawing, run a first article for dimensional and metallurgical approval, then forge in campaign quantities. Typical parts are levers, yokes, hubs, flanged couplings, hooks, links and automotive components from 0.5 kg to 150 kg.

Plain, stepped and flanged shafts in EN19, EN24 and stainless, finish machined with run-out measured.
Shafting is the part of the range where the metallurgy and the machine shop have to agree. Shafts are forged at a 6:1 reduction for rotating duty, quenched and tempered to the ordered property class, stress relieved after rough machining, then turned and ground to the drawing with run-out, concentricity and surface finish measured and reported. Keyways, splines, threads and shrink fit diameters are machined in house.

Trepanned and mandrel forged hollows, sleeves, bushes and cylinder bodies with bore UT.
Hollow forgings replace a machined-from-solid part where the bore is large enough to be worth forging in. We trepan or mandrel forge the bore, which both saves the centre material and improves the soundness of the remaining wall, then heat treat and ultrasonically test from both the outside diameter and the bore. Typical parts are hydraulic cylinder bodies, bushes, sleeves, nozzles and valve bodies.
