Normalising
Heating above the transformation temperature and cooling in still air to refine and homogenise the forged grain structure.
Forging leaves a grain size that varies with how much each region was worked and how hot it finished. Normalising resets it: austenitise around 870 to 920 °C depending on carbon, then air cool. The result is a uniform, fine grain with predictable machinability and impact properties. For A350 LF2 it is mandatory, because the low temperature impact requirement cannot be met from the as-forged condition.
