Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
Volumetric inspection of a forging to ASTM A388, with an acceptance class agreed before forging.
A probe sends sound into the part and times the echoes; a discontinuity returns sound early. What matters commercially is not whether indications exist but which ones are acceptable, so the acceptance class, the scanning surfaces and the stage of machining at which the scan is performed are all agreed at order. Leaving enough machining allowance for a scan surface is part of the same conversation.
